Taste

Opposition in all things—knowing the good that He may shun the evil… There is never a reason to know what bad tastes like, because if you only know the good, you will immediately and instantly know that anything that tastes bad, is not good!

We know the bitter to prize the good but also, as the late Elder Neal A. Maxwell said, "We set our own thermostat as to temptations".

So, in one sense, we can manipulate our senses. There actually is a Good, like following God's commandments or doing His will.

Do you really want to be rescued?

Reading in 1 Nephi, chapter 8, verse 19, we read, "And I beheld a rod of iron, and it extended along the bank of the river, and led to the tree by which I stood."

Also, if you were to be in the filthy river, the rod of iron is close enough for anyone to reach out of the filthy river and try to stop yourself and be helped by those wanting to “save” you.

Like Elder Maxwell said, though, “We set our thermostats as to temptation” so, it’s up to us to want to get out of the filthy water and up to us to be in a position to be rescued, but those wanting to help us can get in a great position to position themselves in such as way as to not fall in the water and still be able to reach-in and help those in the filthy water!

So, are you in the water? Whether or not you put yourself in the water, would you like to get out? Would you like to be rescued?
